Korea is a country is eastern Asia which borders China and Russia. A formery united nation, it is now divided into two states. The Northern state separated from the South and in 1948 became officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; it has a communist government. At the end of the Korean War, the 1953 armistice upheld the division of the country along practically the same border. North Korea has a closed door policy with regards to foreigners and its politics frequently are a subject of contention with Western neighbours. The first stamps of North Korea were issued on March 12th, 1946.
