Cambodia has had a long and turbulent political history. Even after the liberation from the Khmer Rouge and the ousting of Pol Pot in 1980, violence continued between rebel holdouts and the Vietnamese. Instability continued to rock the country throughout the 1980s, until finally the United Nations was given the mandate to enforce peace in the region. Stamps from this era (1989-end of 1993) were issued as "État du Cambodge" until the stamps in 1994 began being issued as "Royaume du Cambodge". In 2002, stamps began being issued as "Kingdom of Cambodia". Whew!
