Montenegro is a small nation on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea across from Italy. It is sandwiched among Bosnia, Albania and Serbia. Sometimes referred to as the pearl of the Mediterranean, Montenegro is a beautiful country full of mountains and clear blue lakes, ancient towns and monasteries. The first stamps and the first post office of Montenegro share the same date-1874. Montenegro has had a turbulent political history in our modern times, but when the country reclaimed independence in 2006, Montenegrin stamps began being issued again.
