Description
Following the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931, this region, which is widely regarded to have been a puppet state of Japan, was renamed Manchukuo. It issued stamps from 1932-1945. When Japan was defeated in the Second World War, the region eventually was split between China and the Soviet Union; it became known as Inner Manchuria and Outer Manchuria. The borders are still under dispute. At the end of the Second World War, many of Manchukuo's leftover stamps were overprinted Republic of China.
