First discovered by Christopher Columbus, they came under British control in 1670. The Cayman Islands are an important center for offshore finances, and enjoy the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. The Cayman Islands are also renowned for tourism, and the famous Seven Mile Beach is considered one of the best in the world. Postal history for the Cayman Islands begins in the 1900's.
