Now and independent nation located on the northern coast of South America, British Guiana was once a British colony. British Guiana first issued stamps in 1850 and is famous for the British Guiana 1-penny magenta which was sold in 1980 for $935,000.00. It is thought to be the most valuable stamp in the world and only one authentic specimen is known to exist.
