The United Nations is not a country, but an international organization founded in 1945 to maintain peace throughout the world and protect human rights. Independent countries are members of the UN and meet at its headquarters regularly to discuss issues and establish world policies. Presently, 192 countries are a part of the UN. The postal history of the United Nations began in 1950 and continues to the present day.
