Thailand is a country in southeastern Asia bordered by Burma, Laos and Cambodia. It is actually a kingdom and its present king has been on the throne since 1946. The country was once named Siam and has been renamed several times, but in 1949 it revertedto Thailand once again and stayed that way. This country is highly industrialised and is a popular tourist attration. Thailand is known for its cuisine and as the home of the Golden Buddha, the largest solid gold statue in the world. The mail was once reserved for the royal family, but stamps for the modern nation of Thailand began being issued in 1940.
