The region once called South West Africa encompassed the area now known as the country of Namibia. Located on the south-western side of the African continent near Botswana and South Africa, South West Africa was an area first colonized by the Germans, then administered by South Africa, until finally becoming a separate, independent nation. Stamps were issued by South West Africa from 1923-1991 and were inscribed with many different names, one of them being 'Suidwes Afrika'.
