Portugal is a nation located in southwestern Europe and bordered by Spain and the Atlantic Ocean. The islands of Madeira and Azores are also part of Portugal. Portugal is known for beautiful orchards, plains and vineyards. The cork oak tree is cultivated in Portugal and the country produces roughly 50% of the world's cork. It is also the home of port, a fortified wine produced in the Douro Valley. The first stamps of Portugal were issued in 1853.
