Namibia is a country is southern Africa with borders on the edge of Zambia, South Africa and the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert, from which it gets its name. Namibia was once known as South West Africa butgained independence in 1990. Stamps began being issued by Namibia in that same year. Although it is home to a large desert area, Namibia also possesses stunning landscapes and is a growing eco-tourism hotspot. A variety of gemstones, including diamonds,can be found there. The population subsists on agriculture.
