Finland is a Nordic country which borders Sweden, Russia, Norway. Finland is considered a stable country with a high quality of life. However, from 1866-1868 it was the scene of the last great famine in Europe. Weather conditions led to extensive crop failure and approximately 15% of the population died. Finland is a country with a long winter and is well known for its saunas. Finnish postal history begins in 1856.
