The Falkland Islands are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, off the mainland of South America. There are two main islands as well as 776 smaller islands. The Dependencies are British territories in the Antarctic which were placed under Falklandauthority for administrative reasons. The Falklands are remembered for the war in the 1980's when Argentina invaded the area in an effort to take it from the British. The first stamps with a profile of Queen Victoria were issued in 1878.
