The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola, the other half being occupied by the nation of Haiti. The Dominican Republic has been conquered many times throughout its history, first by the Spanish, then the French, Haiti and the United States. Its economy is fuelled by the tourist industry. This island nation is known for beautiful resorts, its love of baseball and music. The stamp history of the Dominican Republic begins in 1865 and continues to this day.
