Curaçao is an island in the southern Caribbean Sea off Venezuela which is part of the Netherlands Antilles. Curaçao's proximity to South America and the fact that the Dutch, French and English once inhabited it at one time or another has led to a diversity of influences on its culture and architecture. It has several landmarks which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Curaçao is also the name of the famous liqueur produced by the island according to a secret recipe. Made from the dried peel of the laraha fruit and artificially coloured blue, curaçao lends an exotic touch to the cocktail hour. Since 1948 stamps have been inscribed Netherlands Antilles.
