Burkina Faso is located in western Africa. It is a landlocked country surrounded by six other countries. Burkina Faso used to be a French colony but gained independence in 1960. Prior to independence, it issued stamps under the name Upper Volta. It has a tropical climate and a flat to undulating topography. A poor nation, Burkina Faso works to improve its economy. Its stamps reflect its traditions, wildlife and flora.
