Bulgaria is a Balkan nation located in Southeast Europe in between Romania to the north and Greece to the south. Once a communist nation, in 1990 Bulgaria became a democracy. Due to its proximity to nations such as Greece and ancient Macedonia, Bulgariahas a rich cultural heritage. Bulgaria began issuing postal stamps in 1879.
