Once a Portuguese colony, Brazil is now an independent country located in South America. Famous for the city of Rio de Janeiro and Carnival, Brazil is one of the largest and most densely populated countries in the world. The first Brazilian stamps were issued in 1843 and were named the "Bull's Eye" because of their design. They were the second nation to issue adhesive stamps.
