Barbados is a tropical island in the Caribbean Sea which still has Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. A mild climate, lush woodlands, pastures and scenic coastland with sandy beaches contribute to the beauty of Barbados and its appeal as a touristdestination. Tourism and sugarcane production contribute to its economy. Less attractive, under British rule Barbados had a slave trade fuelling its sugar plantations with workers, but the slave trade was abolished in 1834. Other popular reasons for visiting Barbados: duty-free shopping, scuba diving and cricket!
