The Azores is a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. Its inhabitants subsist on fishing, farming and a tourism industry. These are truly beautiful islands, sometimes called "garden islands". A tranquil lifestyle close to nature awaits you there. Azores postal history begins in 1868 with Portuguese stamps overprinted "Açores". This pretty much continued until 1980 when Azores began issuing its own stamps inscribed with "Portugal" and "Açores".
