1851-Queen Victoria 12 pence stamp

A rare Canadian stamp is now in the illustrious company of other top selling stamp rarities of the philatelic world. At a recent auction of some stamps from billionaire William Gross’ collection, a Canadian 1851 12p black on laid paper with original gum (Scott #3) sold for a record breaking $273, 000 CAD. That is the most money that has ever been paid for a single Canadian stamp, and well over the hoped for asking price of $116, 000 CAD! Youth Sports issued by Canada post in 2005 to commemorate National stamp collecting month

Have you ever heard of «National Stamp Collecting Month»? Starting in 1981, October has been the month set aside to celebrate and introduce people to one of he most popular hobbies on our planet-stamp collecting! In fact, in order to attract as many people as possible, especially youngsters, special stamps are often issued for the event (most often pictorials). Mr. F. Maynard Sundman, innovator of the stamp approval business died October 31st 2007, in Littleton, New Hampshire at the age of 92. Mr. Sundman, a well-respected and admired figure in the philatelic world has even been called «a giant in the hobby» by Mike Laurence, former editor-publisher of Linn’s Stamp News. Mr. Maynard patriarch of the Littleton-Mystic companies was in the business for over 70 years, and we all owe a lot to his passion for stamp collecting. Continue Reading »
